In the world of DIY blogs and 5-Minute Crafts, self-sufficiency is on the rise. People are motivated to transform spaces in their home into dedicated craft rooms, she sheds, man caves, or even workout rooms.

Exercising at home is easier than ever with virtual training that provides a personalized experience, no matter the location! With at-home workouts on the rise, the right space with proper equipment and ambiance is necessary to ensure you get the most bang for your buck. Here, we’ll show you how to create a workout space at home that’s perfect for any exercise.

1. Choose your space

Think about which workouts you usually do. Yoga, pilates, strength training? This will affect how much space is needed for your workouts. Also take into consideration if your family will be using it as well. Having a workout space that your whole family can use is encouraged, as getting fit together will provide motivation and accountability. Some good spaces to transform into an exercise area are the garage, basement, corner of the office, or portion of the family room.

2. Plan it out

This part of the process doesn’t need to take long, but it’s necessary. Sketch the room out in a notebook or iPad. Measure any equipment you plan on including, such as a treadmill or workout bench. Be mindful of any extra things you’d want, like shelves for exercise bands and small equipment or a weight rack. If you’re extra creative, make a Pinterest board of decorations you might include or your desired layout.

3. Add necessary items

After deciding how the room will be used and what will be included, it’s time to put the items in the space. Before doing so, however, clean the floors, mats, mirrors, and anything else you deem necessary. It will be much harder to do so when everything is in the room.

Possible equipment might include a workout bench, yoga mat, weights and weight rack, bands, treadmill, elliptical, foam mats for shock absorption, and any other machines desired for specific training.

4. Decorate!

This is probably the best part about creating a workout space (other than getting in shape, of course). The world is your oyster when it comes to decorating your space. A good place to start is by finding a basket for yoga mats, hooks for jump ropes or fitness bands, and large shelves for shoes, or smaller ones for miscellaneous items. You can liven up the space with real or fake plants, depending on how green your thumb is, motivational posters, lights, and mirrors.

The great thing about creating your own workout space is that it can be as personalized as you want. Add loads of equipment, or only a couple of mats and a mirror. This can also be an activity that the whole family gets involved in, encouraging everyone to exercise more.
